Hello friends.
So, Many of you who play on the server have either skins or a knife or have something in your inventory that has value.
A lot of you will probably be aware of scams and scamming techniques that people use but others will not.
I have offered to and actually bought peoples' knives and skins from the CLWO community as well as selling skins as well.
I've made good friends and made good relationships with trust in them where I can trade skins with someone for a week and trust that they will give them back.
However, Other people that are out of the community (and potentially in the community) have other ideas than to just swap skins or buy them off you.
A lot of people in the community are trust worthy, Staff are trust worthy for one.
A few of you to my knowledge have fell victim to someone scamming or have almost fell victim to it (Someone almost got scammed their knife today).
How not to get scammed:
#1 The easiest way to not get scammed is to trust no one and if you want to sell or buy skins then do it off a reputable website like bitskins, skinport, dmarket or skinbaron.
#2 Don't add people that comment below your profile saying "Can you add me please, Its urgent", or "I want to buy your skins!!! I can pay good price".
#3 If you are talking to someone and they offer you something like 100%+ of the items price on the steam market then it will be 100% of the time a scam. No one will buy your item for more than market price, unless obviously there is something special about it (A gem knife, Very low float).
#4 Ask someone in the community for advice. A lot of people will know what they're doing when it comes to people trying to scam you, and some will have knowledge on trading or selling items. If you want some advice then add me Here on steam. (I would list other people but they may not want people adding them)
#5 If someone adds you and they have a professional looking account and a steam group with thousands of people in it but there is absolutely no activity in that group chat then don't bother adding or messaging them. It will be a fake scammer account.
#6 Never go first. It's simple, If you are desperate to sell your items to someone then don't go first. Even then, I doubt they will follow through with trying to buy your item because they have ill-intentions.
#7 Some of you may not know about this scam but it is to do with your API key which can be found here. If you see that you have an API key then I would revoke it immediately (unless you know what you're doing). Your API key can be used to carry out "Person to Person" trades on sites like buff or csgofloat, but it can also be used by scammers to intercept your trades you make and send your item to bot accounts they own. Be careful with this!
#8 If you are planning on trading your items then becareful for the bait and switch method. This is an old method from csgolounge where people would advertise a Factory New skin but the item they offer you is a different lower wear skin which is of less value. Even though in my opinion the trading scene is dead and has been since the 7 day trade ban, People are still out there trying to scam your items.
#9 A professional looking account with lots of comments and lots of +rep and maybe even a forum where they have +rep doesn't mean anything. Don't trust anyone, Even if their account and history looks legit.
#10 Someone asking you to check the price of your item on a fake phishing site. Becareful of links you click on. Also, Beware of people editing their items price using Inspect Element for things like cs.money prices
There will be legitamate people out there trying to buy skins, But that will be something like 1 in 5000. It isn't worth taking the odds.
Where and how can I buy skins?
If you want to buy skins then I would highly recommend that you use a third party website like Bitskins, Skinport, Skinbaron or Dmarket. You could use buff but it requires you to upload your passport to Alipay and this isn't an overly "good" idea but hey-ho!
These websites offer discounts off of skins that are on the steam market.
For example, The cheapest knife prices on each site :-
Bitskins; Navaja Knife | Safari Mesh (Field-Tested) for $54
Buff; Navaja Knife | Safari Mesh (Field-Tested) for $57 (Buff is generally cheaper and has a wider range of knives and more stable prices)
Steam; Navaja Knife | Safari Mesh (Field-Tested) for $65
As you can see from these examples, Bitskins is currently the cheapest.
If you want help buying or looking for skins then I am more than happy to help you, I've done it before for other people, I sourced an AK-47 | Wild Lotus & Pandora's Box gloves.
As well, A useful site to compare prices of items is THIS. I wouldn't use ShadowPay or Axpeer, csgo.com and definetely not use cs.money.
How can I safely trade my skins?
There are a few good websites that you can use to trade your skins. There are also bad ones and scam ones.
Becareful of the fake websites that might pop up when you search for a legitimate one. For example cs.money could have a fake ad for cs.money.com.
Here are my personal favourite sites;
Loot.farm (Has a good inventory, Multi-game trading, Has an auction feature)
Tradeit.gg (Has an insane inventory, Multi-game trading, fee's a bit high)
Csgoexo.com (Has an insane invetory, Bit of a weird site)
Swap.gg (Has a small inventory, Multi-game trading)
For the love of god though. Don't use Cs.Money. It is basically a scam site due to its high fee's and low offer for your skins.
Only use it if you have a niche item or something weird a good pattern or float (E.G Marble Fade Fire & Ice or Low Float items)
Cheers for reading, Hope this helps you to not get scammed,
If you liked the post then give me thanks yes x
